Science

What is Suzaku supposed to do, anyway? In this section, we try to answer this question. If you are not familiar with X-ray astronomy, try reading the following subsections in order.

Supernovae

  1. Suzaku Science Primer
You can find background information on X-ray astronomy. We also explain what spectroscopy is, and why it's so important. We also outline the kind of stars and galaxies that emit X-rays.

  2. Suzaku instruments
Find out how Suzaku instruments works! How do they capture X-rays, what information can they give us? How are they different from other X-ray telescopes?

  3. The Science Goals of Suzaku
What do scientists know already about different X-ray emitting objects? What new things do they hope to learn with Suzaku?

  4. Suzaku Discoveries
What have scientists actually discovered using Suzaku? This section is still empty - Suzaku has just been launched, and its instruments haven't started taking data yet.
